About Sustainable Stillwater
Sustainable Stillwater is a newly formed environmental organization in Stillwater which grew originally out of a small group of concerned citizens who organized the Stillwater Recycling Coalition in the fall of 2001. The Stillwater Recycling Coalition formed to address issues of recycling in the Stillwater community and Oklahoma State University community. We have since then planned and facilitated many successful projects with the University, the City of Stillwater and the Stillwater Public School system. Our mission and objectives focus on:
- Promoting community sustainability through different campaigns, projects and volunteer/educational opportunities.
- Connecting those working towards sustainability.
- Serving as a resource for environmental information integral to the sustainable future of Stillwater and Oklahoma.
These objectives are carried out within the implicit understanding of sustainability being the ability to meet the needs of individuals in the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. (Defined in Our Common Future, (1987) by the World Commission on Environment and Development.)
