Do you know your "eco-footprint?" Click here to calculate your footprint and we will help you to reduce your impact on the Earth's ecosystems. Our website is designed on the very simple premise that we all create 'eco footprints' by our actions and behaviors. To live a more sustainable life we must reduce our footprints while encouraging others to do the same.

Sustainable Stillwater works with other local organizations to coordinate events promoting sustainablity and encouraging community involvement. Click here to learn about our upcoming events.

Volunteer to help with the Skyline Elementary Rainwater Harvesting and Garden Project

Components of this project include installing a functional rain harvesting cistern system, monitoring water use in the school garden, and conservation education related to the water cistern. There will be many volunteer and leadership opportunities for participation from Sustainable Stillwater.  Here are some:

Landscape installation – moving from plans to installation - review ideas, adopt some features, obtain grants or donated supplies, recruit and organize volunteers, etc.
Finalize design of rain cistern summer 2009 – get approvals, permits.
Educational signage – design and create and install.
Measure gallons of water saved (monitoring water use, watering of new landscape).
Use experiences to continue education about rainwater harvesting for the community & Oklahoma.

Group meets weekly during the summer on Saturdays, starting as early as you can get there – some people plan to show-up at 7am to beat the heat.
Bring your gloves and tools; occasionally we might need a tiller or a wheelbarrow or 2.  We usually have access to water.
The Skyline teachers will post a wish-work-list in a laminated folder on a door near the water fountain located next to the 65-ft. raised planter.

The mission of Sustainable Stillwater is to promote community sustainability, connect those working towards sustainability, and serve as a resource for environmental information integral to the sustainable future of Stillwater and Oklahoma.

Sustainable Stillwater is a local chapter of the Oklahoma Sustainability Network. We work with local, national and international environmental groups to provide the citizens of Stillwater with reliable information about sustainability issues, and help them to make informed lifestyle choices concerning the environment and their own quality of life.

We encourage you to start buidling your new sustainable lifestyle by taking the eco-footprint quiz designed by Redefining Progress. This quiz will give you a good idea about where you should start by highlighting areas of your lifestyle where your footprint could be reduced by changing the choices you make everyday. By making your life choices more sustainable we contend that you not only live a more eco-friendly lifestyle but will increase your quality of life in the process. Pick one of the areas below and begin.

We break down sustainability choices into 8 sections:
